Fire tears through New Malden house as embers rain over neighbouring rooftops
Fire tore through a house on Mount Pleasant Road in New Malden on the evening of Saturday 22 August 2026, throwing showers of embers high above the surrounding rooftops. Pictures taken at 9.46pm show flames breaking through the roofline of the property while three onlookers stand in the road watching, and a fire engine on scene with its blue lights running and a hose run out across the carriageway. The contributor says neighbours and children were evacuated from their homes as firefighters tackled the blaze. They say the property is known locally for the quantity of items kept in its front garden and out onto the road and pavement, including old engines, car batteries left charging, live wires and unidentified car fluids, and that the fire brigade has been called to the same address for a major fire before. One resident watching in the street said: "It's not him again is it".
Van engulfed in flames at the side of the M1
A van burns out at the side of the M1, filmed at night from a passing car. The white panel van is stopped hard against the nearside barrier with its cab and front end fully alight, flames climbing well above roof height and lighting the trees on the embankment. It sits alongside a blue SOS sign marking an emergency area 300 yards ahead. No fire crews or police are on scene in either clip, and other traffic is still moving past. The contributor filmed it while driving past. He says it was a big fire and that he does not know what caused it. A large field fire burned beside a housing estate at Norton in Stourbridge, West Midlands, on 15 August 2026, sending a thick smoke plume drifting over homes.
