You keep the copyright
Always. We take a licence to market and license your work to newsdesks, and that is all. Nothing you upload becomes ours, and you can withdraw anything that has not sold.
You keep 70% of every licence
Fixed, shown before you upload, the same for everyone. No joining fee, no monthly fee, no minimum number of frames, no exclusivity contract to sign.
You set the asking price
You price your own work. We suggest a range based on what desks pay for comparable material, and you can ignore it. Once a shot is approved and live its price is fixed, so a desk can trust the figure it sees.
Non-exclusive by default
A standard licence does not tie the picture up, so filing here does not stop you filing elsewhere. If you choose to sell an exclusive it goes for three times the standard price and locks only for the window the buyer picks, between 1 and 48 hours.
Full resolution in, your credit out.
Real files, not phone snaps only
Photos up to 50MB and video up to 2GB upload directly. For 4K drone footage or a full card of raw-quality frames, drop us a WeTransfer, Dropbox or Google Drive link and we fetch the full-resolution originals ourselves.
Provenance a desk can publish on
We read the genuine capture time, approximate location and camera detail from the original file, and checksum the untouched bytes before any edit. That is what lets a picture editor run something fast.
Your credit travels with the file
Delivered files carry your byline, credit, copyright, caption, location and licence terms written into the file itself (IPTC and XMP for stills, file metadata for video), so your name does not get retyped or dropped at the other end.
Sets, not just single frames
A story you shot properly is worth more as a set than as one picture. Group the take, price it once, and a desk licenses the lot with the paperwork handled.
When the money actually reaches you.
Two kinds of sale, two different timings. We would rather you knew which is which before you file than after.
A card sale
The money is already in the bank, so your 70% lands in your wallet as the sale completes and you can withdraw it straight away.
A newsroom invoice
Most desks pay on invoice, not by card. Your share shows as pending immediately and becomes withdrawable once the newsroom settles, normally within 14 days.
Getting it out
Withdraw to your own bank through Stripe Connect Express, £1 minimum. Withdrawals need an approved ID check in your account. Earnings build up either way, but nothing leaves the wallet until that check clears.
Full detail, including tax, exclusivity and withdrawal, is in the contributor agreement. It is written to be read, not to be got past.
What we are not going to pretend.
- We are new. There is no decade of sales figures to wave at you, and the contributor list is short. That is exactly why an early filer gets noticed here.
- Not everything sells. A human picture editor reviews every submission and will tell you when something is not news rather than letting it sit there.
- We are not asking you to leave anywhere. Standard licences are non-exclusive by design, so PressApp can be an extra route rather than a replacement.
