Cookie policy

Last updated 20 July 2026 (theme preference cookie added to the list) · England & Wales

This page explains the cookies and local storage PressApp uses. We keep it short because we use very little: the cookies we set are strictly necessary to sign you in, plus one preference cookie for your theme choice, and the rest are preferences stored on your own device.

No consent banner needed

We use strictly necessary cookies to sign you in, plus one preference cookie that remembers your light or dark theme choice. We use no advertising, analytics or third-party tracking cookies. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly necessary and user-chosen preference cookies of this kind do not require a consent banner, so we do not show one. If this ever changes, we will ask for your consent first.

What we set

Supabase authentication

Cookie

Keeps you signed in and secures your session. Set by our authentication provider (Supabase). Strictly necessary: you cannot sign in or stay signed in without it.

Duration: Session and short-lived refresh tokens

theme

Cookie

Remembers whether you chose the light or dark appearance, so the site loads the way you left it, including on the first server response. Set only when you pick a theme, mirrored in local storage. It carries no identifier and is not used for tracking.

Duration: One year, or until you clear it

pressapp:push-card-dismissed

Local storage

Remembers that you dismissed the "turn on notifications" prompt, so we do not keep showing it.

Duration: Until you clear it

pressapp:supportchat

Session storage

Keeps your support chat thread while you move between pages, so you do not lose the conversation.

Duration: Cleared when you close the tab

Managing cookies

You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings at any time. If you block the authentication cookie you will not be able to stay signed in. Clearing local storage just resets your saved preferences, such as your theme choice.
