Privacy policy

PressApp takes your privacy seriously. We only collect the data we need to run the service, review content and pay you. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have. For the detail on cookies and local storage, see our cookie policy.

01Who we are

PressApp (pressapp.co.uk) is a UK marketplace for breaking-news photos and videos. PressApp is a trading name of KODE DEV LTD, and for the personal data described here KODE DEV LTD is the data controller. You can reach us at hello@pressapp.co.uk. This policy is written to the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

02What we collect

Account data (name, email, username, profile photo, and whether you signed in with email, Google or Apple). Contributor content and its metadata read from the original file, including capture time, approximate location (GPS where present), device details and a checksum of the original bytes. Identity verification documents and status for contributors. Payment and payout data held by our payment processor (we do not store card numbers). Wallet balance and transaction records. Support messages, AI chat messages and bug reports (including any screenshot you attach), and content reports you send us. Notification preferences and web push subscription details. Technical logs and app error records, which can include limited request context, for security and debugging.

03How we use it and our lawful bases

To create and secure your account and provide the service (performance of a contract). To review and moderate uploads, verify contributor identity, run the marketplace, issue licences and invoices, and process payouts (contract, and legal obligation for tax and record-keeping). To feature submitted content, with your credit where your byline is enabled, on our own marketing and social media channels to promote the platform (legitimate interests, under the licence in our terms). To prevent fraud and abuse, keep the platform secure and debug problems (legitimate interests). To send transactional emails such as approval and sale notices (contract). To send web push notifications, news digest emails and occasional announcements where you have opted in or where we have a legitimate interest, which you can stop at any time (consent or legitimate interests). To meet legal and tax obligations (legal obligation).

04Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it with the service providers who run the platform for us, acting as our processors: Supabase (database, authentication and file storage, hosted in the EU/UK), Vercel (hosting), Stripe (card payments, contributor payouts and identity verification for payouts), Resend (email delivery) and Anthropic (the AI that powers our support chat, which receives only your chat message and page context, not your account records). Newsdesk buyers receive the licensed content and see your public byline ("Username / PressApp", or "PressApp" if you switch your byline off). We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect our rights or safety.

05International transfers

Some of our providers process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent standard contractual clauses, so your data keeps a similar level of protection.

06Retention

We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data, unsold submissions and their files are removed. Records of completed sales (licences, invoices and transaction data) are retained in anonymised form because we need them for licence integrity, accounting and tax. Support history is kept but detached from your identity. Error logs are kept only as long as needed for debugging and security.

07Security

We use access controls, private storage buckets and platform protections to reduce the risk of unauthorised access. Watermarked previews are shown publicly and original files are released only to buyers. No online service can be guaranteed 100% secure, but we work to keep your data safe.

08Cookies and local storage

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in (set by our authentication provider). We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies, so no consent banner is required. Your browser also stores a couple of preferences locally, such as your light or dark theme choice and whether you have dismissed the notifications prompt, and keeps your support chat thread for the visit. These stay on your device. Our cookie policy lists every item, what it is for and how long it lasts.

09Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, object to certain processing, and withdraw consent for notifications at any time. You can manage much of this in your account settings, including self-serve account deletion in the Security tab, or contact hello@pressapp.co.uk. We will respond within the timeframes the law allows.

10Complaints

If you have a concern about how we handle your data, please contact us first at hello@pressapp.co.uk so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk.

11Children

PressApp is for users aged 16 and over, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. Payout identity verification is only ever performed on adults: for contributors under 18, a parent or guardian completes it in their own name.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service develops. The date below shows when it was last changed, and material changes will be made clear on the site.
