Terms of service
Last updated 13 July 2026 · England & Wales
These terms govern your use of PressApp. By creating an account or uploading content you agree to these terms and our contributor agreement.
01About PressApp
PressApp (pressapp.co.uk) is a UK marketplace for breaking-news photos and videos. Contributors upload shots, our desk reviews and approves them, and newsdesks buy licences to publish. These terms cover everyone who uses the service: contributors, newsdesk buyers and general visitors. In these terms "PressApp", "we" and "us" mean the PressApp service operated at pressapp.co.uk. PressApp is a trading name of KODE DEV LTD, the company you contract with under these terms.
02Eligibility and your account
You must be 16 or over to use PressApp. If you are under 18, withdrawals from your wallet are paid to the bank account of a parent or guardian: they complete the payout verification in their name, because our payment provider can only verify adults. Your earnings are still yours and build up in your wallet as normal. Newsdesk buyers must be 18 or over. You can register with an email and password, with Google sign-in or with Apple sign-in. Provide accurate account information, keep your login details secure, and tell us promptly if you think your account has been compromised. You are responsible for activity under your account.
03Our role: a marketplace, not the publisher
PressApp is a marketplace that connects contributors with newsdesks. We act as agent for the contributor in licensing their content, and we review submissions before they can sell. We are not the publisher of the content and we do not decide how a buyer uses it. Buyers are responsible for their own editorial and legal decisions when they publish licensed content, including any checks, captions and clearances their own use requires.
04Your content and the licence you grant us
You keep copyright in everything you upload. By submitting, you grant PressApp a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to review, store, crop, watermark, market, license and sub-license your content to newsdesks for editorial use, and to reproduce it in previews and on the licence certificate. This licence lets us run the marketplace. Full contributor obligations are set out in the contributor agreement, which forms part of these terms.
05Promoting the platform on our own channels
You also grant PressApp a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to reproduce and display your submitted content, including watermarked or cropped versions, on our own marketing materials and social media channels (such as TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube) to promote PressApp. Where you have your byline enabled, we show your credit alongside the post. This promotional licence does not let us resell or sub-license your content to third parties outside normal marketplace sales. You can turn your byline off, delete a submission or close your account at any time, and we will not start new promotional posts from that content, but posts we have already published to promote the platform may remain live.
06Provenance and declarations
When you upload, we read the capture time, approximate location and device details from the original file and fingerprint the untouched bytes (a checksum) before any editing. You declare that the work is your own original capture, is not AI-generated, and is not staged or re-enacted. These declarations appear to buyers and on the licence certificate. See our editorial policy for the full standard.
07Your warranties and indemnity
When you submit content you warrant that it is your own original capture, that you own or control all rights needed to license it, that it is authentic and not AI-generated, staged or re-enacted, that you were lawfully present when you captured it, and that you did not trespass, intercept private communications, harass, stalk or otherwise break the law to obtain it. You warrant that you have any consent or other legal basis needed for identifiable people shown. You agree to indemnify PressApp against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from content you upload that breaches these warranties, including intellectual property and privacy claims. Nothing here makes you liable for our own negligence or wrongdoing.
08Byline and credit
Your username is your public byline. Published work is credited "Username / PressApp" by default. You can switch your byline off in your account, in which case the credit becomes simply "PressApp". Buyers are asked to publish with the credit line, but we cannot guarantee a third-party publisher will always do so.
09Review, embargo and removal
Every submission is reviewed by our desk before it can sell. We may hold, reject, blur, crop, delist or remove any submission at our discretion where it raises safety, legal, privacy or editorial concerns. Freshly approved shots are shown to registered newsdesks first and stay out of the public feeds for 72 hours before appearing more widely.
10Content moderation and reporting
All content is reviewed by our desk before publication, so nothing goes live unchecked. Anyone can report a live submission using the "Report this content" action on its page, or by emailing hello@pressapp.co.uk, and you do not need an account to do so. We aim to review reports and act within 24 hours. Content that breaks our standards is removed, and contributors who repeatedly break the rules or upload seriously harmful material have their accounts suspended or banned. Our editorial and content policies set out the standards we apply.
11Licensing model
A standard licence is non-exclusive and can be sold repeatedly to different newsdesks. An exclusive licence costs three times the standard price: the buyer sets a release date and time between 1 hour and 48 hours ahead, during which the shot is locked to them. Once that window passes, the shot reopens for second rights. Longer arrangements are handled through offers. Licences cover editorial use only, not advertising, merchandising or endorsement.
12Previews and originals
Before purchase, shots are shown only as watermarked previews. The original, unwatermarked file is released to the buyer after a completed purchase. Buyers must not remove provenance information or misrepresent the content.
13Offers and negotiation
Newsdesks can make offers on shots and negotiate price through the platform. An accepted offer is completed by payment and issues the same licence certificate and invoice as a standard purchase.
14Newsdesk buyers
Newsdesk access is granted by an administrator on request. Newsdesk accounts can view fresh approved shots without waiting for the public embargo, buy licences, make offers, and access their purchase history, licence certificates and invoices. Buyers agree to use licensed content for editorial purposes and in line with the licence terms.
15Payment and payouts
Contributors keep 70% of every sale, credited to their in-app wallet balance in pounds. Withdrawals are paid to your bank account through Stripe Connect Express, with a £1 minimum withdrawal. If you are under 18, the payout account is set up and verified by a parent or guardian and withdrawals are paid to their bank account. Buyer payments are processed by Stripe; PressApp does not store card details. Every purchase issues a licence certificate PDF and an invoice or receipt PDF. PressApp is not currently VAT registered, so invoices do not charge VAT. You are responsible for declaring and paying any tax due on your earnings; PressApp does not deduct tax on your behalf.
16Prohibited conduct
Do not stage or manipulate scenes, upload AI-generated material as news, trespass, harass, impersonate officials, upload unlawful or harmful material, or use the service to share private data, spam or false reports. Our content policy and editorial policy set out what is and is not allowed.
17Takedown requests
If you appear in a submission, hold rights in it, or believe a submission is unlawful, inaccurate or breaches privacy, email hello@pressapp.co.uk or use the "Report this content" action on the submission. Tell us which submission and what the concern is. We review takedown requests promptly, aim to respond within 24 hours, and will remove or restrict content where the concern is well founded. If content has already been licensed to a buyer, we will also let the buyer know where that is appropriate.
18Notifications and support
We send transactional emails such as approval and sale notices. You can opt in to web push notifications and to news digest emails, and turn them off at any time. We may occasionally send service announcements. An AI support chat is available on the site; it answers common questions and can hand off to our team by email. Bug reports may include a screenshot you attach, and app errors (including limited request context) are logged so we can fix problems.
19Termination and account deletion
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. You can delete your account yourself from the Security tab in your account. Deletion removes your personal data, unsold submissions and their files. Records of completed sales are retained in anonymised form for legal and tax reasons. Any remaining wallet balance is forfeited if you have not withdrawn it first, so withdraw before you delete.
20Liability
PressApp is provided on an as-is basis. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of profit, revenue or data, arising from use of the service. Where we are liable to you, our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the fees you paid or received through PressApp in the 12 months before the claim, or £100. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.
21Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts. Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@pressapp.co.uk.
