The terms newsrooms licence on
Plain English, three minutes to read. These are the standing terms behind every offer, licence and invoice on a newsdesk account.
Who these terms are for
These terms apply to newsdesk accounts: verified newsrooms, picture desks and editorial buyers. By requesting newsdesk access, or licensing any content, your organisation agrees to them. Contributor accounts have their own terms.
What a licence covers
Licences are for editorial use only, at the usage tier you buy: web, print, or web and print. A standard licence is non-exclusive. An exclusive licence blocks other outlets until the release time stated on your certificate. No advertising, merchandising or endorsement use, and no AI-training use.
Offers are firm
An offer or auction bid on a set is a firm commitment, confirmed by the tick-box when you make it: if it is accepted, the agreed fee is payable whether or not you publish or use the material. Withdrawing after acceptance does not cancel the fee.
Ordering a single shot on invoice
Alongside card payment, a newsdesk account can license a single shot on 14-day invoice terms. The minimum order value on invoice is £20; below that, card payment applies. Placing an order is a firm commitment: you are buying the licence at the listed price then and there, subject to our approval. Where we already recognise the desk the order is accepted straight away and files, certificate and invoice follow immediately; otherwise it is held for review, and while it is pending no licence is issued and nothing is owed. An order accepted automatically stays open to a short review by us: if we cancel it in that window we tell you straight away, the licence is void, nothing is payable, and you must not publish the material. If we decline an order the sale is cancelled and nothing is payable.
Payment: 14-day invoice
Licences are invoiced with 14-day payment terms, to your accounts contact when you have set one. Files and certificates are delivered as soon as the licence is agreed, ahead of payment, because that is how news works. Repeatedly unpaid invoices suspend newsdesk access.
Credit the contributor
Publish with the credit line shown on the licence certificate (for example "Name / PressApp") wherever your house style carries picture credits.
No re-syndication
A licence covers your own titles at the usage bought. It does not permit reselling, sub-licensing or passing content to other publishers or agencies. Watermarked previews are for assessment only and must never be published.
What we stand behind
Every submission is editorially reviewed before it can be licensed, with provenance recorded where the original file carries it (see our editorial policy). If material is withdrawn for a legal or authenticity concern before you publish, we cancel its invoice or refund the fee in full.
The boring but honest part
PressApp licenses content as agent for the contributor, who keeps ownership. Our liability for any claim connected to a licence is capped at the fee you paid for that licence. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
